چکیده

Traditionally, networks such as datacenter interconnects are designed to optimize worst-case performance under arbitrary traffic patterns. Such network designs can however be far from optimal when considering the actual workloads and traffic patterns which they serve. This insight led to the development of demand-aware datacenter interconnects which can be reconfigured depending on the workload. Motivated by these trends, this paper initiates the algorithmic study of demand-aware networks (DANs), and in particular the design of bounded-degree networks. The inputs to the network design problem are a discrete communication request distribution, D, defined over communicating pairs from the node set V , and a bound, ∆, on the maximum degree. In turn, our objective is to design an (undirected) demand-aware network N = (V,E) of bounded-degree ∆, which provides short routing paths between frequently communicating nodes distributed across N . In particular, the designed network should minimize the expected path length on N (with respect to D), which is a basic measure of the efficiency of the network. We show that this fundamental network design problem exhibits interesting connections to several classic combinatorial problems and to information theory. We derive a general lower bound based on the entropy of the communication pattern D, and present asymptotically optimal network-aware design algorithms for important distribution families, such as sparse distributions and distributions of locally bounded doubling dimensions. 1998 ACM Subject Classification F.2 Analysis of Algorithms and Problem Complexity, C.2.1 Network Architecture and Design

Supply chain network design with multi- mode demand based on acceptance degree of fuzzy constraints violated

This paper designs a mathematical model for supply chain network design problem including plants, distributors and customers in fuzzy environment. Each plant and distributor has several levels capacities. A multi-mode demand strategy is considered for the customers where only one of the modes is to be selected for each customer. Considering the acceptance degree of fuzzy constraints violated, a...

rDAN: Toward robust demand-aware network designs

We currently witness the emergence of interesting new network topologies optimized towards the traffic matrices they serve, such as demand-aware datacenter interconnects (e.g., ProjecToR) and demand-aware peer-to-peer overlay networks (e.g., SplayNets). This paper introduces a formal framework and approach to reason about and design robust demand-aware networks (DAN ). In particular, we establi...

A location-aware peer-to-peer overlay network

This work describes a novel location-aware, self-organizing, fault-tolerant peer-to-peer (P2P) overlay network, referred to as Laptop. Network locality-aware considerations are a very important metric for designing a P2P overlay network. Several network proximity schemes have been proposed to enhance the routing efficiency of existing DHT-based overlay networks. However, these schemes have some...

Bi-objective optimization of a blood supply chain network with reliability of blood centers

This paper presents a multi-periodic, multi-echelon blood supply chain network consisting of blood donors, mobile collection units, local blood centers, main blood centers and demand points in which the local and main blood centers are subject to random failure in dispatching blood products to demand points. The problem has two objectives including minimization of the total chain costs and maxi...

Locality-aware and Low Maintenance Overhead P2p System

This work describes a novel locality-aware structured peer-to-peer (P2P) overlay network, referred to as LAPTOP. One important aspect of constructing a structured P2P network is how to reduce the maintenance overheads while maintaining efficient routing and network locality. LAPTOP organizes nodes into a treebased overlay network in a self-organizing manner and builds the routing table by takin...
